ABOUT THE JOURNAL

The Journal of Biomedical and Applied Sciences Federal University Dutse (JOBASFUD) is an official publication of Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences, Federal University Dutse. JOBASFUD publishes reports of experimental and clinical work on all aspects of research in medicine, health sciences, and applied sciences biannually.

MISSION AND SCOPE

The Journal of Biomedical and Applied Sciences Federal University Dutse (JOBASFUD) is an open access journal that publishes contributions of professional, scientific and educational interest to medical and health practitioners and researchers and those in applied sciences. The aim of the Journal is to provide a medium for local and international researchers to share knowledge and exchange ideas amongst medical and applied scientists. The Journal is published in English.

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS

The Journal welcomes original research articles review, commentaries, editorials, reviews and educational materials as well as scientific, socio political and economic contributions in matters that impact on medical and health care, and applied sciences. Type the manuscript in English with double line spacing, times new roman, font size 12 throughout the article. The paper should be set out as follows: (a) Title page, (b) Abstract, (c) Keywords, (d) Abbreviations (d) Text [Introduction; Materials and Methods; Results and Discussion], (e) Acknowledgements, (f) Conflict of Interest, (g) References, (h) Tables and Figures appropriately embedded within the text.

Number the manuscript pages consecutively starting from the title page to the reference page. Each of these subsections should be started on a new page in the sequence given above.

a) Title Page

This should contain (i) title of the manuscript, (ii) initial(s) and surname of each author, and affiliation; (iv) name, postal and e-mail addresses of corresponding author, (v) a running title of not more than 40 characters, (vi) financial support information (e.g. agency, grant number). Avoid use of abbreviations in the title.

b) Abstract Page

The abstract should be structured (maximum 250 words) depending on the type of article. Articles that need structured abstracts include original research papers, case reports, reviews and meta-analyses and brief reports. Other contributions may be provided only with a 150 words summary in the conventional manner. In any event the abstract should include the purpose, methods, results and conclusions. Editorials, correspondence, commentaries, prose and poetry and similar contributions need not carry abstracts. Structured abstracts should be provided as follows:

(i) Abstract for original contributions, case reports and brief reports:

should consist of the following sections: (a) Background and objectives, (b) Methods which should include design, subjects, materials, setting and measurements (c) Results and (d), Conclusion.

(ii) A review article abstract

(including meta-analysis) should be organized into the following sections: (a) Background/Purpose, (b) Data source (c) Study selection, (d) Data extraction, (e) Results, and (f) Conclusions.

Keywords:

Provide four to ten keywords or short phrases that can be used for indexing, immediately following the abstract.

Introduction:

This should contain mainly essential background information and important relevant references. The objectives of the work and its relevance or contribution must be clearly stated.

Materials and Methods: New methods and modifications of established ones should be described in detail to enable replication by other researchers. For the established and published methods, references should be made to the relevant publications. Generally acceptable, scientific terms should be used. Attention should be given to experimental design and statistical analysis of data where applicable.

Results: Description of the findings of the research must be provided. Table and figures should be kept to minimum. Type each table on a separate sheet of paper. Each table must be numbered in Arabic numerals and should contain brief title on top. For case report article, the case report should be captured in this section. Figures and plates should be of reproducible quality.

Discussion: This section may be combined with results. Avoid repetition of methodology and results in your discussion. Discussion should indicate clearly the significance and implications of the results obtained. Relate your work to published studies Limitation of the study should be state where applicable. Recommendations, where necessary, must be drawn from the study.

Conclusion: This should be drawn from the aim(s) and objectives of the researcher. It should not carry too much detail of the results.

Acknowledgments: Author(s) should acknowledge support and assistant offered by individual(s) or organizations.

The Journal used APA reference style.

In text citation

References should be cited, e.g. Adamu (2020) if there is one author, Smith and John (2001) if there are two authors, or Ibrahim et al., (2022) if there are more than two authors.
